The Agenda 2030 for Children: Solutions Summit was organised jointly by the Global Partnership to End Violence against Children and the Government of Sweden in Stockholm, Sweden, on 14-15 February 2018. The Summit brought together governments, CSOs, the Private Sector, the media and children from more than 55 countries.
The goals of the Summit
- highlighting and signalling mutually supporting initiatives that advance the cause of children’s rights, and to prevent and bring to an end to all forms of violence against children;
- spreading solutions that end violence against children, and highlighting hoe the Global Partnership to End Violence against Children supports the 2030 Agenda and strengthens children’s rights; and
- making the rights of the child known and safeguarded and reinforcing a shared commitment for action to end all forms of violence against children.
Summit Highlights
- The importance of political will and accountability
- Importance of bottom up programming, including the need to capitalise on indigenous practices of care and support
- Greater focus on prevention and the role of the newly developed INSIPRE package of strategies for violence prevention in informing regional and national action
- Documenting and customising good practice models and action-oriented programming
- The link between gender-based violence, domestic violence and violence against children, hence the need for programming that takes those linkages into account
- The need for greater cross-sectoral and cross-country collaboration
